![]() ![]() IB is great if you want to learn a little more, challenge yourself, go the extra step, and really delve into a subject your interested in. But anyone out there who has experienced otherwise, please leave a comment and prove me wrong! :) I would assume these pros and cons hold for most IB subjects. There are times when I’m glad I took IB (you don’t know integration? or summation notation? I learned that over a year ago!) and other times when I wish I hadn’t (why isn’t this physics problem asking me to do unit analysis?) A guy in my mathematical analysis class asked if taking IB would make the course any easier, and the profs answer was “what’s IB?” It will definitely test your limits.Ī friend of mine put it into words quite well. While IB certainly “somewhat” eases the transition from High School to University (which is still rough), it is in no way an adequate representation of what University will feel like. And you will be too if you think this way. I took IB! I’m prepared for the style of University!” In my naïveté, I went in to University thinking: “this is going to be easy. It also may be different for a chem major, or a business major, or music or second language, etc, etc. Perhaps IB would’ve helped more in a slightly less rigorous University. I am a Math and Physics major at the University of Toronto (of which the courses I am taking are quite rigorous). To be honest, for me, not as much as I expected while I was in IB.īut I have a very limited perspective. I took IB in my final years of High School, and I thought maybe I could help some people out who are deciding whether to take IB, or whether to keep going, or current alumni’s who are just curious about the impact IB has on University.
